Don’t Let Anything Out of Sight

You know how they say, out of sight, out of mind. If you are trying to make sure that, everything is properly organized and easily accessible. Do not let anything out of sight because you might forget that you have put it there, and never actually access it again. So, make sure that everything is not just in sight, but also easily accessible.

Go Light on The Gadgets

The issue that we are facing in the modern day and age is that we are spending so much on so many gadgets that we lose sight of what we should use and should not. If you are like that, then start removing the gadgets from your kitchen that you do not use, or you rarely use. This way, you will know that you are spending money on the right thing and there is nothing that could get in the way.

How to Tell If Eggs Are Still Good to Use

Whenever you are buying eggs at the grocery store, there is actually a way to tell whether they are fresh, and safe to use. However, the thing with buying eggs in a container, or buying them from a local farmer is that there is no proper way to tell if the eggs that you have just bought are safe, or at least fresh enough to use. This can be a problematic situation for many people.

Now the thing is that you can tell that the egg has gone bad as soon as you crack it. However, the crux here is that even an egg that looks fine after it is cracked can have a lot of problems. In a situation like that, you cannot really trust your instincts as it is a matter of health, and putting that on the line does not make much sense.

So, what do we do in a situation like this? Well, the best part is that you can actually tell if the egg is safe to consume without really breaking the shell. How? You may ask. Well, the process is rather simple and requires a simple float test. This method is being used by home cooks for ages and the best part is that you do not need to invest in high technology either. A bowl with water is more than enough to find these things out.

Doing The Float Test

The simplest way to find out whether the eggs are fresh or not is by doing a float test. Eggs that have gone bad will float. That is because as the egg ages, the moisture starts evaporating through the egg, and as that happens, the air bubble inside the eggs expands as well. The simplest way to tell that is by holding the egg close to your ear and shaking it a little. If there is an audible movement inside, you can tell that the egg is not good.

Another way is obviously the float test. Below is how you can tell.

  • Freshest: If you drop the egg in a glass or bowl of water and it lies horizontally, the egg is the freshest it can be
  • Narrow End Tilting Upwards: If you drop the egg in the water, and the narrow end tails upward, that means that the egg is usable, but not as fresh as you might have hoped.
  • Egg Stands Up Right: If the egg does upright, but does so while being at the bottom of the container, the egg is not fresh but it can still be used.
  • If it Floats: If the egg floats, there is no other way but to get rid of it.

Is Seaweed Really Helpful?

There is an ever so rising trend in the food industry and superfoods are taking over. Seaweed is one of them and for those who do not know, it is basically a marine plant that can be found in salty waters. It is one of the most favorite food items in Asian cuisine. Needless to say, it is now becoming more and more popular in western dishes as well. It is surprisingly delicious and based on how people are consuming it, quite versatile as well. It is low on calories, and has good nutritional value too, so you are certainly in for a treat.

However, is it really a superfood? Well, the facts do suggest so. There are a lot of benefits to taking seaweed as a food item. Below are some of the common ones.

  • Iodine Rich: Seaweed is a great source of iodine, a mineral that happens to be very useful when it comes to pregnancy or early childhood. It makes sure that the person is growing properly, and brain development is happening in the right way as well.
  • Full of Fiber: Another benefit here is that seaweed is full of fiber, and helps you control your appetite as well. It reduces blood cholesterol and helps with blood sugar levels as well. The seaweed is also rich with good bacteria.
  • Good for Immunity: There is a type of seaweed called wakame seaweed, it is said to be good for immune systems, and it is mostly used in miso soups. It is especially good against herpes.
  • Great Vegan Diet: Seaweed is also rich with amino acid, iron, as well as vitamin C, which makes it an excellent addition to any vegan diet as it provides all the necessary minerals and nutrients that a person would need.

However, as we all know, the excess of everything is never a good thing. So, keeping that in mind, we must find out if there are a few things that are not good about seaweed.

The thing is that since it is so rich in iodine,  it can be an issue. For starters, the high amount of iodine can have a negative impact on the thyroid function and can possibly be a cause of thyroid cancer as well.

There are a few types of seaweed that have high levels of arsenic, which happens to be a carcinogen in the body.  That is why it is suggested that extra use of such seaweed is never the right thing for anyone.

 Is Seaweed a Super Food?

Well, with the number of benefits that you get from seaweed, it certainly is a superfood. However, the thing that you must know here is that if you are thinking about consuming it; make sure you do it in a controlled manner.

Excessive use of seaweed can be a problem, so, do avoid that at all costs and you would be good to go for the rest of your experience.
